Credit
repair is a popular service offered to a person who wants to improve poor credit ratings.
An important question that arises in the wake of credit ratings is: "What
is the need for credit repair?"
Generally, consumers who accumulate large credit debts without repaying them in a timely manner end up with poor credit ratings.
Occasionally, this situation will also lead to bad credit reports and the failure to get further credit. When a situation of mounting debts is
coupled with an inability to pay, the consumer finds it necessary to improve his credit ratings by finding ways to correct and repay debt.
At some point, debtors may have filed for bankruptcy. This eliminates debt; however, a bankruptcy is listed on credit records for several years.
This makes obtaining new credit at reasonable rates quite difficult.
Debtors must be aware of the fact that many credit repair services are scams. The important thing to remember is that these services cannot
legally eliminate accurate information from a credit report, or remove bankruptcy information. Such agencies sometimes mislead debtors
encouraging them to engage in illegal acts. Legal transactions can only occur through a credit bureau or creditor. This requires the debtor to
make some type of payment plan with the creditor. There are some credible services that can help debtors by arranging payment plans and advising
for or against declaring bankruptcy. They can also help to remove data from a credit report that is truly false. Almost all of these agencies are
nonprofit organizations, referring to "credit counseling".
A credit problem may also be resolved by a "self-help credit approach," which may sometimes be the best choice. In this approach, the consumer
can adopt his own procedures to improve credit ratings. A practical workable budget can be drawn up, incorporating a repayment plan with
creditors.
